Phantom Tint – Rear Windshield Smart Tint

SPD (Suspended Particle Device) is an advanced electronically controlled smart-tint technology. Inside the film are millions of microscopic light-absorbing particles suspended between transparent conductive layers. When electrical voltage is applied, these particles align, allowing more visible light to pass through and making the window appear clearer. As the electrical signal is reduced, the particles become progressively less aligned, restricting more light and making the glass darker. When power is removed, the particles return to their random state, producing the dark/privacy setting. This means the tint is not simply turning “on and off” like a screen. It is physically controlling how much light can travel through the film, allowing the darkness to be electronically adjusted within the film’s available range.Unlike conventional window tint, which stays at one permanent VLT level, SPD technology can provide multiple tint levels from the same piece of film, controlled through the vehicle’s electronic system.SPD smart-glass technology has been developed for automotive, aviation and architectural glazing applications, where electronically adjustable light and glare control are useful.

Yes. When the vehicle is switched off, the smart tint returns to its dark/privacy mode, which requires no power. When the vehicle is running, a small amount of power is used to activate the adjustable/clear mode. When installed using the vehicle’s ACC/ignition power, the system switches off with the car, helping prevent battery drain.

Each side-window smart tint sheet measures 42.4 × 100 cm (16.7 × 39.4 inches) and can be trimmed to fit your vehicle. The rear windshield option is 150 cm (59 inches) wide. We recommend measuring your windows before ordering to ensure suitable coverage.

SPD smart tint electronically adjusts the amount of visible light passing through the glass. Depending on the film configuration, SPD technology can achieve below 1% VLT in its darkest state and approximately 50%+ VLT in its clear state, with intermediate tint levels also available.

Our smart tints use high-quality film built to last many years when professionally installed. It's designed for long-term performance and reliability.

Phantom Smart Tint can be installed yourself (DIY) by following the installation instructions, or fitted by a professional window tint installer or automotive electrician for a clean, professional finish.

The smart tint is installed on the inside of the vehicle windows. It connects to a compact controller/inverter powered through the vehicle’s electrical system. The thin wiring is discreetly routed along the window/door trim and connected to the controller, keeping the installation clean and hidden.

Smart tint legality depends on your location and how the product is used. In the UK, front windscreens and front side windows must meet minimum light-transmission requirements, while rear passenger windows and the rear windscreen have no statutory VLT limit. Always use the tint in accordance with local road laws and check your vehicle’s total VLT after installation.
